While luxury is still number one, what most hotel guests today crave is better “experiences” rather than better “things”. While luxury is still going strong, comfort is slowly taking over with guests wanting to feel good in a space. Smart rooms are just about to enter the hotel scene! Today, we can already see hotel rooms and social spaces that respond to smartphones and allow guests to manage locks, lighting, temperature and entertainment with their phones or tablets. Also, texts will replace landlines, Li-Fi (internet connection through lights) will replace Wi-Fi and paper city maps that are usually available for pickup at hotel lobbies will be replaced by free map apps!

Sustainability as a priority

Most hotels are already installing smart thermostats and automatic lights to save energy and other resources, but we can expect to see new hotels taking their sustainability up a notch! Solar panels, reused materials, organic cleaning supplies, water-harvesting systems and biophilic design will help increase environmental consciousness and reduce hotels’ carbon footprint.

These innovative trends will have a huge influence on hotel design not only in 2019 but also in the upcoming years. People are finally embracing change, so hotels need to keep up by providing green design, new technology, comfort and unique experiences to all of their traveler guests!
